CarSite Verdict:  2.75/5
The ix20 is Hyundai's attempt at a small people carrier. It's not a bad effort by any means but this top-of-the-range model is a little pricey - the cheaper models make more financial sense.

PROS:  Practical, reliable, economical, good looking

CONS:  Noisy engine, vague steering

Behind the Wheel

The ix20's 1.6-litre diesel engine produces 115bhp and 192lb-ft of torque. This translates into a 0-62mph time of 11.5 seconds and a top speed of 113mph which is perfectly respectable for a car of this size.

The ride is fairly comfortable but the handling is very sloppy - there is almost no feedback whatsoever through the steering wheel. The diesel engine is also very noisy - you're best off going for one of the petrol models instead.

Looks & Equipment

The ix20 looks the part with funky modern styling touches that make the car very appealing. The cabin is also very attractive and appears to have been made out of decent quality materials.

You get a decent amount of kit included as standard. Alloy wheels, air-con, electric windows, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and a CD player with MP3 connectivity are all included.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

There's a decent amount of boot space in the ix20 with 440-litres on offer with the rear seats up and 1486-litres available with the rear seats down.

Reliability shouldn't be an issue. Hyundai have a good repuation for producing dependable cars and the ix20 is supplied with a five year/unlimited mileage warranty.

The ix20 should also be very safe and comes with a host of airbags and driver aids to keep you safe.

Value for Money

At £16,045, this is the most expensive ix20 on the market and the cheaper models make more financial sense.

However, running costs should be low - you'll get 64.2mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 117g/km means that the car falls under VED band C, making road tax very cheap. Group 13 insurance is also very reasonable for a car of this type.
