PROS: The Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25 5DR has a very striking exterior and a classy interior. It is also very economical and good to drive and is the most comfortable car in its class.
CONS: It's not as practical as some of its rivals.
The Fiesta's 1.25-litre Zetec petrol engine develops 81bhp and 84lb-ft of torque. This means 0-62mph arrives in a respectable 13.3 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 104mph.
Ford really know how to make a mainstream car handle well and the Fiesta is no exception. The steering is light, but precise and direct, and the suspension is firm but comfortable. The Fiesta is also very refined for such a small car and both road and engine noise are barely audible. A bit of wind noise builds up around the mirrors at motorway speeds but this is a minor criticism.
The Ford Fiesta Zetec has sleek, bold and sophisticated looks. It looks fantastic both inside and out.
Included as standard equipment are air-conditioning, electric and heated mirrors, seat height adjustment, steering adjustment rake and reach, MP3/iPod connectivity, CD player, alloy wheels, split/fold seats and front foglights. Options for the Zetec 1.25 are metallic paint, Bluetooth, rain sensing wipers, alarm and curtain airbags.
Legroom is at a premium in the rear of the Fiesta but there is plenty of space in the cabin. The boot is also a good size with 295-litres of room on offer with the rear seats up and a full 979-litres available with the rear seats down.
The Fiesta scored five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests and is fitted with five airbags and stability control.
Ford have built an excellent reputation for reliability over recent years and the Fiesta scored highly in the 2011 J D Power Survey. All cars come as standard with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.
The Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25 is priced at £12,945 which is very reasonable for a car as good as the Fiesta. You should also be able to negotiate a good discount off the list price.
The Fiesta should be very cheap to run and delivers an impressive 50,4mpg. Road tax will also be cheap under VED band D thanks to CO2 emissions of 129g/km and group 6 insurance is very reasonable.
