PROS: The Ford Fiesta Style 1.4 TDCi is a great looking car. It also handles well and is surprisingly comfortable.
CONS: The three-door body makes access in and out of the rear seats a bit of a challenge. The boot has a high load lip which can making loading and unloading bulky items a bit tricky. The rear seats are a bit cramped.
The Fiesta's 1.4-litre diesel engine produces 69bhp and 118lb-ft of torque. This translates into a fairly leisurely 0-62mph time of 14.8 seconds and a top speed of 101mph.
The Fiesta handles well and feels agile thanks to good suspension and quick, direct steering. The ride is also superb and even rough road surfaces are smoothed out with ease.
Overall refinement is also excellent and, although there is a bit of wind noise at motorway speeds, noise from the road and engine are barely audible. Very impressive.
The Ford Fiesta Style 1.4 is a great looking car both inside and out. The piece de resistance of the interior is the mobile-phone-like centre console. The dashboard is quite funky and works well but the scroll down function of the on-screen menu is not really that intuitive. However, the general feel of the switches and controls from the gearshift to the steering to the stereo and heating system are praiseworthy.
Available as standard equipment for the Ford Fiesta Style are Electric mirrors, Heated mirrors, Electric front windows, Seat height adjustment, Power Steering, Steering adjustment reach, Steering adjustment rake, MP3/iPod Connection, MP3 CD Player and Split/fold seats. There are not many options available but the ones available are metallic paint and curtain air bags.
The Ford Fiesta Style 1.4 is not as practical as some of its rivals as rear legroom space is limited. The boot has a decent enough space of 295 litres with the rear seats up and 979 litres with the rear seats down.
The Fiesta should be very safe as it scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests and is fitted with five airbags and stability control.
Ford have a superb reputation for reliability and the Fiesta scored highly in the 2011 J D Power Survey. All cars come as standard with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.
The Ford Fiesta Style 1.4 is priced at £12,295 but you should be able to negotiate a good discount. Running costs will also be low and the Fiesta returns an impressive 68.9mpg and emits just 107g/km of CO2, putting it in VED band B. Group 8 insurance should also be very cheap indeed.
