Ford Fiesta Overview

With the newest incarnation of the Fiesta, the Mk VI (introduced in 2008 and facelifted in 2012), Ford has taken the dynamic excellence of the old Fiesta and polished it, without radically altering the nature of the car.

It is still great to drive, rides comfortably and is the most refined car in its class. But the Fiesta is now stylish inside and out.

Background

The car was originally introduced in 1976 and has received updates and enhancements through the years keeping it fresh and competitive. The Mark I went from 1976-1983, to be replaced by the Mark II which ran until 1989.

The Mark III was in production for eight years until 1997. Interestingly, the Mark IV was launched in 1995, so both were built and sold from 1995 to 1997.

In 1999 the Fiesta received a facelift and better levels of trim to keep the car fresh and competitive. This model was in production from 1999 to 2002.

In 2002 the Mark V was revealed. The car was completely new and bore less resemblance to its predecessors that other evolutions of the model had. The car was being offered with a new line of engines including diesel options, and could be bought in ST form reaching 130 mph.  It too received a facelift (in 2005), until it was replaced by the Mark VI in 2008. The Mark VI model was facelifted in late 2012.

Alongside the Ka, the used Ford Fiesta is a perennial favourite of the young car buyer, or those looking for a relatively economical small car that is cheap to run and insure.

Summary

The Ford Fiesta is an excellent small family car which delivers style, performance and value for money. The car has sold well since its introduction and continues to be one of Ford's most popular models.
