Volvo has previewed the next-generation XC90 with its new Concept XC Coupe, which will be revealed to the world at the Detroit Motor Show next week.
The new design, which was revealed in a teaser image last month, is the second of three concepts designed by Volvo design chief Thomas Ingenlath, each of which is designed to demonstrate elements of the firm's new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). The first of these cars, the Volvo Concept Coupe, was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September.
The two-door four-seater XC Coupe looks strikingly similar to the Concept Coupe, but features a taller roofline, bigger wheel arches and 21-inch alloy wheels. Side mouldings, skid plates and matte rubber mouldings also help give the car more of an SUV look than the Concept Coupe.
At the front end, the Concept XC Coupe gets a new 'floating' grille and T-shaped daytime-running lights, while the rear light signature shows the direction Volvo will take with its range of new models.
Ingenlath claims that the XC Coupe has been designed with a an active customer base in mind, saying "The Volvo Concept XC Coupe is perfectly in tune with this active lifestyle. Its capability and protection is cleverly integrated into the sophisticated looks. Concept XC Coupe is ready and willing to bring you into the adventure zone and back."
