Volvo is a Swedish car manufacturer currently owned by the Chinese company Geely.
Founded in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1927, Volvo was at one time renowned for its boxy estate cars, but has now established itself as a credible alternative to the German mainstream by producing cars of immense quality with excellent standards of safety.
The S40 and its estate car equivalents the V40 and the V50, was launched in 1996 and entered its second generation in 2004. Renowned for being a safe and reliable medium-sized family car, the S40 range is still a popular choice on the used car market.
The Volvo V40 replaced the S40/V50 range in 2012, and quickly established itself as one of the best cars in its class. The V40 is an excellent choice on the second-hand car market thanks to its good looks, premium cabin and its range of innovative safety features (including the world's first pedestrian airbag) which make it one of the safest cars on the road.
The Volvo C30, launched in 2006, is the company's small coupe, which harks back the stylish Volvo 480 of the late 1980s and early 1990s and the P1800 of the 1960s (as made famous by Sir Roger Moore in 'The Saint'). The C30 is a popular choice on the used car market thanks to its sensational looks, good performance and reliability and, thanks to a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, there is a C30 for every buyer.
The Volvo S60 and S80 models are the company's compact- and large-executive cars, respectively. The S60 was launched in 2000 and entered its second generation in 2010, while the S80 hit the market in 1998 and was refreshed eight years later. Both cars offer good performance, a wide range of engines and class-leading safety features and are therefore good options on the second-hand car market.
Other popular second-hand models in the Volvo range include the stylish C70 coupe, the V70 and V60 estates and Volvo's 'XC' range off crossover models which includes the XC60, the XC70 and the XC90.
