Just after being awarded the International Van of the Year 2012 and What Van? Magazine's Van of the Year, the Kangoo Van Z.E. has a new reason to celebrate as it has won the VansA2Z.com Ecovan of the Year trophy at Twickenham Stadium.
The Kangoo Van Z.E. is the first 100% electric commercial vehicle produced directly by a mass market manufacturer, which might be the reason for its recent string of accolades.
The Ford Azure Transit Connect was among the competitors fought off by the Renault van. Commenting on the model, Andy Heiron, Renault's Head of Electric Vehicle Programme UK, said:
"There has been a real buzz around the Kangoo Van Z.E. ever since its launch at the end of last year and this is further proof that it is the market leader in the UK. I am sure this latest recognition at the VansA2Z.com Awards will generate even more interest in Kangoo Z.E. and help to highlight the significant benefits of electric motoring."
The competition's judges claimed it was a very tempting prospect for operators with a suitable duty cycle.
"It is absolutely superb, the most complete electric vehicle and very driveable - it works beautifully. I have driven it many times in many countries, including the Brighton to London Future Car Challenge, and found it works completely effortlessly. It was the worthy winner in the ecovan category," said VansA2Z.com editor, Neil McIntee.
Plug-in Van Grant
Priced from £13,592, excluding VAT, the van was actually one of the top selected in the Government's new Plug-in Van Grant.
Other vans eligible for the grants are the Azure Dynamics Transit Connect Electric, the Mercedes-Benz Vito E-Cell, the Faam ECOMILE, the Faam JOLLY 2000, the Mia-electric Mia U, and the Smith Electric Smith Edison variants SE2 and SE3.
