The winners of the Women's World Car of the Year awards have been announced, with female drivers voting in a total of four categories in addition to the ‘supreme winner’ category.
Despite the fact that the motoring industry is historically dominated by males, it is quite apparent that women also have much to say when it comes to cars.
The panel of judges saw female experts gathered from twelve different countries to vote in five different categories: Family car, Luxury car, Sports car, Economy car and Supreme winner.
The BMW 3-series was the winner in the 'Family car' category, followed by the Audi Q3 and the Ford Focus in second and third place respectively.
The 'Luxury car' prize went to the Range Rover Evoque, which was also the Supreme winner. The Jaguar XJ was awarded second and the Audi A6 third within this category.
The Porsche 911 was named as the best sports car. It was followed by the Jaguar XKR in second position and the Mercedes Benz SLK in third place.
Judges considered the Honda Civic to be the 'Best Economy car' for 2012. The VW Up! and the Ford Fiesta followed the vehicle in second and third position respectively.
Supreme Winner
The car receiving the highest number of points overall is always named as the overall winner.
Based on this theory and according to the 2012 votes, the Range Rover Evoque was awarded the title of 'Supreme winner' at the Women's World Car of the Year Awards 2012. The BMW 3-Series was in second place and the Audi Q3 in third.
Paul McCormick, the competition director, said it was a close-run race but there were some clear leaders in each category as the individual votes arrived.
"The results for second and third, however, changed back and forth and with each addition of votes the differing opinions from the judges changed the results with every entry," he explained.
