Renault is one of France's top car manufacturers and was founded by Louis Renault and his brothers Marcel and Fernand in 1899. The company is renowned for its stylish small cars as well as its innovative people carriers and comfortable saloons.
The first-generation Renault Twingo was launched in 1992; however, it was never officially sold on the UK market. The second-generation Twingo (launched in 2007) was, and quickly established itself as one of the best city cars on the market. Good-looking, cheap and good to drive, the Twingo is an excellent used choice for those looking for uncomplicated city transport.
Launched in 1990, the Renault Clio became a runaway sales success and was awarded the European Car of the Year title in 1991. New models in 1998, 2006 and 2012 helped to cement the Clio's success, and the Clio is regarded as one of the best superminis on the market. The popularity of the small hatchback means that there are a huge number of used Clios on the market, making it a good choice for those looking for a small second-hand car.
The Renault Megane replaced the old Renault 19 in 1995 and became one of the best-selling family hatchbacks in the UK. A second-generation model in 2002 and a third-gen model in 2008 improved on the formula, and now the Megane is regarded as one of the best used medium-family hatchbacks on the market.
Although no longer sold in the UK, the Renault Laguna is still a popular second-hand choice. Although no longer sold in the UK, the Espace is still a popular choice.
The Renault Scenic (originally the Megane Scenic) was launched in 1996 as a smaller alternative the Espace, and was updated in 2003 and 2009. The Grand Scenic is the seven-seat version of the Scenic. A good family car, the Scenic is a popular used choice thanks to its practicality and affordability.
Other popular Renaults on the used market include the Fluence family car, the Fluence Z.E electric car, the Kangoo MPV, the Modus mini-MPV, the Wind coupe and the Twizy electric city car.
