CarSite Verdict:  3.75/5
The Bluemotion technology makes for cheap running costs, although the Sport trim does bump up the initial purchase price and it doesn't offer a great deal more than the SE trim. The Jetta saloon is a very practical car with a spacious interior and some decent equipment provided as standard.

PROS:  This saloon has excellent fuel economy and low CO2 emissions, meaning that running costs will be very low.

CONS:  One of the more expensive models.

Behind the Wheel

The saloon has a top speed of 118 mph and takes 11.7 seconds to travel from 0-62 mph.

The car’s power output is 104 bhp and has torque figures of 185 lb-ft at 1500-2500 rpm.

The driving experience delivered by the Jetta is a competent one, with smooth and responsive steering as well as efficient handling. The Jetta is not particularly fun to drive, but offers a refined ride and is an accomplished motorway cruiser, with a cabin which does an excellent job of keeping noise to a minimum.

The steering wheel and driver's seat are both very adjustable, allowing for maximum comfort.

Looks & Equipment

The Sport is an advanced trim level and comes with some decent kit as standard.

Alloy wheels are standard, but metallic paint will cost £465. Air conditioning is fitted with climate control available for £780. Electric door mirrors and electric front windows are standard, as is cruise control. Leather seats are £1,855 while rear parking sensors are £440.

The in-car entertainment comes fitted with a CD player, MP3 connectivity and Bluetooth.

Satellite navigation is not standard but can be fitted for £700.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

An alarm is fitted as standard with this model, with central locking, immobiliser and driver, passenger and front side airbags.

This car is very practical, seating five occupants and with four-door access. The boot space is also generous with 510 litres when the rear seats are up.

In terms of reliability this car is covered under warranty for three years and up to 60,000 miles.

Value for Money

The Volkswagen Jetta Sport 1.6 TDI BlueMotion Technology DSG 4dr will cost drivers £21,690.

The car produces 113 g/km of CO2 emissions and has a combined average of 65.7 mpg. The cheap running costs are a big attraction for this saloon, but it is also a practical car with ample space for the family. The Sport trim comes with plenty of equipment, but the SE offers better value for money.
