The Jetta provides a smooth and refined driving experience, while the BlueMotion technology makes for low running costs and excellent fuel efficiency. The cabin is a spacious one, with some decent standard equipment, and the exterior is attractive. The main downside is the price and the fact that the smaller diesel engines are great performers, still efficient, and cheaper.

PROS:  This car is especially fuel efficient, so running costs will be low. The engine is strong so performance will be good.

CONS:  It costs more than the smaller diesel engine, which still has good performance figures.

Behind the Wheel

The top speed of the Jetta is 130 mph, taking 9.5 seconds to travel from 0-62 mph. The cars power output is 138 bhp and has torque figures of 236 lb-ft at 1750-2500 rpm.

The driving experience delivered by the Jetta is a competent one, with smooth and responsive steering as well as efficient handling. The Jetta is not particularly fun to drive, but offers a refined ride and is an accomplished motorway cruiser, with a cabin which does an excellent job of keeping noise to a minimum.

The steering wheel and driver's seat are both very adjustable, allowing for maximum comfort.

Looks & Equipment

The SE trim comes with all the essentials in the cabin and enhances the exterior with alloy wheels as standard and the option of metallic paint for £465.

Air conditioning is fitted, but climate control is a further £780. Electric door mirrors and electric front windows are standard, as is cruise control. Leather seats cost £2,035 and rear parking sensors are £440.

The in-car entertainment comes with a CD player, MP3 connectivity and Bluetooth. Satellite navigation is not standard but can be fitted for £700.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

This car is very practical. It seats five occupants and has four-door access. The boot space is also generous with 510 litres available with the rear seats up.

In terms of reliability this car is covered under warranty for three years and up to 60,000 miles.

An alarm is fitted as standard with this model, with central locking, an immobiliser and front, passenger and front side airbags.

Value for Money

The Volkswagen Jetta SE 2.0 TDI BlueMotion Technology 4dr can be bought for £20,210.

The car produces 126 g/km of CO2 emissions, with a combined average of 58.9 mpg. The Bluemotion technology is definitely one of the best things about the Jetta, but it is also a very practical car, suitable for families and large amounts of luggage. The model represents decent value for money, although others in the range are even better in terms of efficiency.
