Volkswagen have released the first images of their all new Golf Cabriolet.
The two-door, four-seater soft top is due to make its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show next week, but Volkswagen have decided to give potential customers a preview of their new design.
The pictures released by Volkswagen show a stylish cabriololet, with facial features similar to the Golf hatchback but with a heavier rake to the windscreen, LED lights to the rear, and a distinctive crease to the bootlid. The new Golf Cabriolet has an electrically-powered soft top roof that takes less than ten seconds to retract. The top is designed not to unduly encroach on boot space, and capacity in the boot is 250 litres with the top down. Inside the car, it shares a similar amount of cabin space to the larger Volkswagen Eos Cabriolet, and the same high-quality interior found in the hatchback Golf.
UK customers will have a choice of three trim levels for the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet - the S, the SE, and the GT - and although full details are not yet confirmed, standard equipment is expected to include 16-inch alloy wheels, a fully automatic electro-hydraulically operated soft top, a DAB radio and Bluetooth.
There will be six engine options for the Golf Cabriolet. Three will be available from launch, a 106bhp 1.2-litre TSI petrol, a 162bhp 1.4-litre TSI petrol, and a diesel option in the form of a 106bhp 1.6-litre TDI engine. Three more engines are planned later in the year, with a 124bhp 1.4-litre TSI, a 213bhp 2.0-litre TSI, and a 142bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine. The diesel engines will be endowed with Volkswagen's BlueMotion Technology.
Volkswagen have also confirmed details of the safety equipment on the new Golf Cabriolet, which will include active roll-over protection, ABS, electronic stabilisation programme, airbags all round - including drivers knee airbag - and a reinforced window frame and other structural design elements to increase rigidity.
The new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet should be available to order in the UK from July, with the first deliveries anticipated for September. Volkswagen have not yet confirmed a pricing structure for the new model, with this and other information to follow closer to launch.
