Volkswagen’s iconic Golf has turned 45 years old.

More than 35 million Volkswagen Golf’s have been sold since the first example rolled off the Wolfsburg production line on 29 March 1974, meaning that a new Golf has been ordered, on average, every 41 seconds for the last four-and-a-half decades.

In that time, the Golf has become Volkswagen’s best-selling model, and with the current generation boasting state-of-the-art driver assistance systems, infotainment systems, and technology, it’s clear that Volkswagen firmly expect it to remain as popular as ever.

The current Volkswagen Golf is the seventh incarnation, and is available at Volkswagen retailers priced from £18,765 on-the-road.
