Volvo Car Heritage will return to the Footman James Classic Motorshow after a two year absence.
Volvo will use the event, which takes place at the Birmingham NEC from 11th to 13th November, as the Grand Finale to the celebrations which have taken place throughout the year to mark the 50th anniversary of its iconic P1800 model.
A collection of P1800s will be on display to mark the model's half century, including the P958-X1 prototype which will appear at the show accompanied by its designer Pelle Petterson. Volvo aim to top the impressive collection of P1800s it displayed in April at the TechnoClassica show in Essen, Holland.
Joining the P958-X1 on the stand will be an original 1961 Volvo P1800 fitted at the time for test purposes with a 2.5-litre DOHC 4-cylinder Aston Martin prototype engine. Although this project remained a unique experiment, the car survived and now resides in Switzerland with its owner, engineer Beat Roos, who will be bringing the car over to Birmingham for the event.
In addition to these two stunning examples will be ST1 – famous as the white P1800 driven by Sir Roger Moore when he starred as Simon Templar in the 1960s television series The Saint – as well as an original one-owner, Jensen-built P1800, and a rally spec P1800S.
There will a number of other classic Volvo models on display on stand 5T42, on which Volvo Cars Heritage will exhibit jointly with the Volvo Owners Club (UK). For more information on the event visit www.volvocars.com/heritage, www.volvoclub.org.uk, or www.necclassicmotorshow.com.
