Volvo hope to take the hassle out of motoring if trials of a new concierge service go well.
The pilot scheme including around 300 XC90 and S90 drivers will commence in San Francisco this month, and will do away with visits to the petrol station, car wash, or service centre for Volvo customers. If successful, Volvo could add the concierge service to its Volvo On Call mobile platform.
“Imagine parking your car in the morning at work and when you head home your car has been serviced, cleaned and refuelled”, said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President for Global Consumer Experience at Volvo Car Group.
The service was developed following research by Volvo which suggested a demand from customers, of whom 70% said they wanted refuelling services at their fingertips, more than half wanted their car collected for routine servicing, and around half would like to have their car moved to another location when desired. Volvo boffins have worked to incorporate all these services into an easy-to-use smartphone app. The app provides a one-time-use digital key, which is location- and time-specific, sends it out to the authorised service provider and, when the services are complete, the car is locked and the digital key expires. The car can either be returned to where the customer left it, or delivered to a completely new location at the customer’s request.
