Volkswagen has chosen the Beijing Motor Show to unveil its new E-Bugster model to the world.
The E-Bugster's 28.3 kWh lithium-ion batteries offer a fast-charging function that allow complete recharging in just 35 minutes from a specialist DC source, or slower charging from an AC source such as a 230-volt domestic outlet.
The new vehicle develops 114bhp, allowing it to reach 0-60 mph in just 10.9 seconds.
The vehicle also features 20-inch alloy wheels with reflectors replacing LEDs at the back of the car. "LED daytime running lights at the outer edges of the central air intake form a C-shape on the left that is mirrored on the right," explains Volkswagen.
The E-Bugster is the same length as a standard Beetle, but 30 mm wider. Overall, the car measures 4,278 mm long and 1,838 mm wide. The front and rear bumpers also differ from the Beetle version.
Volkswagen Cross Coupé
The manufacturer also chose the Beijing Motor Show to introduce the Cross Coupé concept, the latest diesel-electric hybrid.
The car emits 46g/km of CO2 and is powered by a turbodiesel direct injection engine and two electric motors, which together produce 302bhp. Thanks to these features, the vehicle is able to reach a top speed of 137 mph.
Volkswagen also added, "The Cross Coupé is built on Volkswagen's new modular transverse matrix (MQB). This revolutionary platform standardises certain parameters across models (such as the distance between the accelerator pedal and the front axle), but makes many other parameters variable, creating huge flexibility for developing a wide range of models."
