Volkswagen has released the first images and details of its new Golf Estate, following the car's world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Like the Golf hatchback, the new Golf Estate is built on the VW Group's MQB architecture, and is up to 105kg lighter than the model it replaces. But despite its lower kerb weight, the new model is considerably more spacious than its predecessor, with 605-litres of boot space with the rear seats up (up from 505-litres) and 1,620-litres with the rear seats down (up from 1,495-litres).
The new Golf Estate will also be available for the first time as a BlueMotion model, with a 1.6-litre diesel engine developing 108bhp. Fuel consumption is claimed to be just 85.6mpg on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of just 87g/km.
Other engines on offer in the new Golf Estate will be a 1.6-litre diesel, a 2.0-litre diesel, a 1.2-litre petrol and a brace of 1.4-litre petrols.
Prices for the new Golf Estate will be revealed closer to the car's UK launch in July. The first deliveries are expected to arrive in October.
