The first photographs of the new Volkswagen up! have been released by the German car maker.
The grammatically incorrect up! is Volkswagen's new city car, destined to make its debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show ahead of a European sale launch in December.
The pictures show a diminutive new design, whose 3.54 x 1.64 metre footprint contains a cabin capable of seating four and a boot capacity of 251 litres, made possible by short overhangs and a long wheelbase.
Volkswagen have also announced a new generation of 3-cylinder petrol engines for the up!, with 59bhp and 74bhp versions available. The 59bhp unit offers, as a BlueMotion Technology version, combined fuel returns of 67.3mpg and under 100g/km of CO2 emissions. An electric version of the up! is also planned.
There are three versions in the up! range. The take up! is the entry level model, the move up! is the comfort-oriented model, followed by the top-of-the-range high up! Two launch models, the up! Black and the up! White, will be based on the high up!
Dependant on the equipment level chosen, the interior makes a feature of the décor paint or body colour, notably across the dashboard fascia.
The up! comes with Volkswagen's maps + more system, a touchscreen mobile Personal Infotainment Device which integrates navigation, telephone, information, and entertainment systems. A further option available on the up! is a City Emergency Braking system, which makes use of laser sensors to detect a risk of low speed collision, and apply evasive braking.
Volkswagen have not revealed full information on the up! range at this stage, with further details including prices to be made public closer to launch.
