Okay, so you've decided to swap the standard four-banger in your Mazda MX-5 for a carburetted small-block Chevrolet V8.

Good idea. A big, all-American V8 in a small, lightweight Japanese roadster sounds like a recipe for some serious driving fun.

However, if you do decide to perform some major surgery on your MX-5, we'd advise you to watch the video below for an object lesson in how not to do it.

The chap in this video is attempting to turn the engine over while it's still in the hoist.

'Why?' we hear you say. Well, we're not entirely sure.

Anyway, thanks to some sloppy fuel system work, coupled with what looks like a leaky carb, the whole engine catches fire. And, in a masterstroke, the guy continues trying to turn the engine over. You don't need to have a master's degree in engineering to realise that this is A Bad Idea.

Realising that the fire needs to be put out, our hero blows on it like a birthday cake. We'll repeat that: He tries to BLOW on a BURNING ENGINE in order to put the flames out. Needless to say, it doesn't work.

In a last-ditch attempt to stop his whole house burning down, the guy tries to move a jerry can of petrol away from the all-consuming blaze but, unfortunately, this catches fire too. As does his shirt.

Finally, he manages to extinguish the flames with a garden hose and is left with one very charred sports car as a result of his efforts.
