Vauxhall has developed a new set of lightweight, enhanced support seats for the launch of the latest Astra VXR.
The new Vauxhall Astra VXR will get its debut this at the Geneva Motor Show this year, and it will feature fronts seats that are significantly lighter, have a lower seating position, and enhanced side support to meet the demands of increased cornering loads.
The new seats are made using an injection moulded sheet in the seat shells, which reduces their total weight by 45% compared to a conventionally manufactured shell. This sheet is filled with a composite material made up of polyamide and fibreglass, which is strong and flexible enough that it only needs to be two or three millimetres deep. The seats are mounted 17 millimetres lower than they are in the Astra GTC, and 40 millimetres lower than the Astra Hatch. They also feature 18 different adjustment settings.
The new Astra VXR seats are the first in class to be certified by independent testing body AGR (Action for Healthy Backs), who are based on Germany. To gain this approval the seats were put through a series of tests to ensure that they meet a list of 10 different criteria, such as checks for lordosis support, and making sure that the contours of the seatback adapt precisely to the natural curvature of the spine.
The New Astra VXR, along with its new seats, will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on 6th March.
