Toyota has revealed images of its new Auris ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut next month.
The new Auris is both lower and longer than its predecessor, and Toyota claims a 40kg weight reduction over the outgoing model as well as a 10% increase in stiffness.
Despite the improvements, the Auris will be offered with a range of existing engines including a 1.3-litre petrol, a 1.6-litre petrol, and a 1.4-litre oil burner.
Toyota has also responded to criticism of the old Auris's dowdy looks, and the new model is an altogether sleeker and more handsome affair thanks to its angular headlights and sharper lines.
The Auris will also be offered as a hybrid with a 1.8-litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery.
The new Auris will be built at Toyota's Burnaston plant near Derby and is expected to reach dealer forecourts from early next year.
