A classic MG B GT described as a ‘time-warp’ is set to go under the hammer in just over a month’s time.
The 1980 example with just 1,500 miles on the clock is expected to be a highlight of Classic Car Auctions’ biggest ever sale, which takes place at the Birmingham NEC on 1-2 April.
Estimated to fetch between £12-15,000, the near-original car is virtually as it was when it rolled off the production line in September 1980, and even more amazingly has had just one owner from new who preserved it in dry storage for over three decades. The Brooklands Green model with rare orange and brown ‘Deckchair’ trim remained almost untouched between a rustproofing and service in April 1982 with 984 miles on the clock, and its first ever MoT just over two years ago where just 1,348 miles were recorded.
“This is a genuine, preserved, unrestored example of a much-loved and enjoyable, classic British sports car,” said Nigel Gough from the auctioneers.
“Rarely do we see a car of this age with such a low mileage, and the owner has clearly kept the car this way intentionally to create what we call a time-warp example of the model, which is highly collectible. This near 37 year old car is something special. It's a little piece of late summer in 1980.”
