The Detroit Motor Show this year saw the debut of a new Ford Fusion model for the US market, which offers a strong indication of what the UK can expect from the 2013 Mondeo.
At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year Ford unveiled a new Fusion model for the US market. Although this car will not be available to buy in the UK, it does give British drivers an advance preview of what to expect from the next version of the Mondeo, scheduled for release in the UK in 2013.
The Ford Fusion comes with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre variants of the turbocharged direct-injection Ford Ecoboost petrol engine. These same engines, along with a diesel unit with similar performance, will also be fitted to the new Mondeo. In addition to these there will also be a hybrid and plug-in hybrid version of the US Ford Fusion. The company has confirmed that these hybrid powertrains will also cross the Atlantic to the UK market, and they will almost certainly be available on the 2013 Mondeo.
The styling of the new Fusion features a new grille which is reminiscent of something from Aston Martin, and a rear end which is quite similar to the current Mondeo saloon. The design is supposed to show the 'new face of Ford', so although the next Mondeo will not have the exact same looks, it will undoubtedly share many characteristics with the Fusion.
The new Mondeo will be officially unveiled later this year, probably in September at the Paris Motor Show, ahead of its UK launch in 2013.
