The new Ford Shelby GT500, the most powerful Mustang ever made, is appearing at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Mustang's appearance at the festival is a tribute to the legendary Carroll Shelby who died last month.

The Ford Shelby GT500 is fitted with an aluminium 5.8-litre supercharged V8 engine which produces 662bhp -- around 70bhp more than a Ferrari 458. It is the most powerful engine ever fitted to an American production car and propels the Mustang to a top speed of more than 200mph.

Thankfully, Ford hasn't made the same mistake it usually makes (i.e. putting a huge engine in a car without beefing up the brakes and suspension) and the Shelby comes with better traction control, tweaked suspension and Brembo brakes.

On the outside, the Mustang gets a splitter, downforce-generating grilles, quad exhausts and forged aluminium wheels.
