Subaru has unveiled the production version of its new BRZ sports coupe at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The BRZ is a 2+2 sports car that, Subaru claims, offers ample luggage space and enough room for four occupants.
The car is fitted with a 2.0-litre Boxer engine producing 197bhp and 151lb-ft of torque. Developed in conjunction with Toyota, the new engine features both direct injection and port injection technology to improve fuel efficiency. A six-speed auto 'box offers the driver the choice of selecting gears manually using steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles.
With a strong but lightweight chassis and body - the BRZ weighs just 1220kg - Subaru claims that the BRZ combines excellent driving characteristics with a high level of occupant safety. The Boxer engine is also mounted lower than in any other Subaru, which should help keep the centre of gravity low, further enhancing driving pleasure.
There is no word yet on pricing but the Subaru BRZ should go on sale in the UK next July.
