Skoda has revealed the first images of a new high-performance Octavia vRS, the fastest production Octavia yet.
Available in either hatchback or estate guise, the vRS is also offered with a choice of two engines: the 2.0-litre 217bhp petrol unit from the Golf GTI or the 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Golf GTD.
The petrol model will crack 62mph in 6.8 seconds -- 0.3 seconds slower than the Golf GTI -- and carry on accelerating all the way up to 154mph, while the diesel model will hit 62mph in 8.1 seconds and hit 144mph flat out.
Both models get a six-speed manual gearbox as standard with a six-speed DSG double-clutch 'box offered as an option.
The vRS gets sports suspension as standard and a newly developed multi-link rear axle. The saloon sits 12mm closer to the road than the regular Octavia and the estate is 13mm lower.
On the outside, the vRS can be easily distinguished from the less sporting models in the Octavia line-up thanks to a range of styling tweaks, including a new front grille, an aggressive bodykit, honeycomb air intakes, new front and rear bumpers, a black rear diffuser and a rear spoiler.
Buyers can also choose from a range of new 17-, 18- and 19-inc alloy wheel designs.
On the inside, Skoda has given the vRS sports seats, a perforated leather steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and sill plates, and a smattering of vRS badges.
The new Skoda Octavia vRS will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month and will go on sale in the UK in August, with prices expected to start from just under £23,000.
