The name of Skoda’s first all-electric SUV has been announced.
It will be called the Skoda Enyaq, a name which the manufacturer has put considerable thought into. Firstly, it begins with an ‘E’ to signify its all-electric powertrain. The ‘Q’ at the end is in line with the rest of the Skoda SUV family, the Kodiaq, Karoq, and Kamiq. The ‘Enya’ is not in fact in honour of the Irish singer-songwriter, but like the former Clannad vocalist it is the Anglicisation of the Gaelic name ‘Eithne’ which means ‘source of life’, something Skoda say is symbolic of its entry into the electromobility sector.
The Czech brand plans to introduce more than ten electric models under its Skoda iV sub-brand over the next three years, and by 2025 expects more than a quarter of sales to be either all-electric or plug-in hybrid.
No specific date has yet been announced for the launch of the Skoda Enyaq.
