A Ferrari formerly owned by a genuine football legend will go under the hammer at the end of this month.
The Ferrari 550 Maranello which used to belong to England’s 1996 hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst will be the star attraction at the auction taking place on 30th July at the Silverstone Classic motor sport festival, exactly 50 years to the day since his goals helped the Three Lions to a World Cup win over West Germany at Wembley.
The 16-year-old 550 Maranello has just 36,600 miles on the clock, and has a sale estimate between £120,000 and £150,000. Finished in Argento Nurbrugring paint, the car has black leather Daytona style seats, full carbon interior trim, leather headlining, and silver-painted brake calipers. Sir Geoff’s name appears on the V5C as the immediate previous owner of the car, which comes with with two sets of keys, full Ferrari leather bound book pack, a fitted red Ferrari cover, a fresh MoT and full service history, with both Ferrari main agents and Ferrari specialists.
Nick Whale, Managing Director of Silverstone Auctions, said, “This is a very desirable Ferrari. Front engined V12 Ferrari Grand Tourers have always been the stuff of legend since the days of the original 365 GTB/4 Daytona back in the early 1970s. With only 457 right-hand drive 550 Maranellos made, the car is highly collectible. Not only that it’s a superb driver’s car, with a fantastic history, this example even more so for football aficionados.”
