A Ferrari once owned by Sir Elton John is the star turn at the next Silverstone Auctions sale.
Fans of the Rocket Man singer will need deep pockets to drive home this particular piece of automotive memorabilia however, as it is expected to fetch upwards of £425,000 when it goes under the hammer at Dallas Burston Polo Club next month.
1973 was a pivotal year for the former Reginald Dwight, releasing the number one album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player in January and following it up with his platinum best-selling LP Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Autumn. In his own inimitable style, Elton celebrated his new-found stardom with an extravagant spending spree, which included a year-old Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. One of only 158 genuine right-hand drive Daytonas sold in the UK, it had been registered new on 3 August 1972 by Maranello Concessionaires, finished in Rosso Chiaro with Black VM8500 Connolly Vaumol upholstery.
Sir Elton owned the car for two years before selling it on, since when it has passed through a number of hands but retains extensive documentation - including every MOT certificate – verifying its 82,000 miles.
The Daytona goes under the hammer on Saturday 21 September.
