SEAT has unveiled the third-generation Leon ahead of the Paris Motor Show next week.
For the first time, the Leon will be made available in three different body styles: a five-door hatchback (above), a three-door SC and an ST estate.
The new Leon is 90kg lighter than the model it replaces, legroom has been increased, and boot space has been improved by 40-litres to 380-litres.
The engine line-up for the new Leon includes a 1.2 TSI with either 85bhp or 104bhp, a 1.4 TSI with either 120bhp or 138bhp and a 1.8 TSI with 178bhp. A 1.6 diesel with either 89bhp or 104bhp will also be on offer, as will a 2.0 TDI with 148bhp or 181bhp. SEAT claims that the less powerful of the 2.0-litre diesels will return more than 70mpg and emit less than 110g/km of CO2.
The most efficient model in the range, the 104bhp 1.6 diesel, will return a combined 73.4mpg and emit just 99g/km of CO2.
Standard equipment on the Leon will include a colour touchscreen with radio controls and Bluetooth phone connectivity. The Leon will also become the first model in its class to be offered with full LED headlights.
Sporty FR models in the range will also come with SEAT Drive Profile, a system which allows the driver to change the characteristics of the power steering, throttle and, in cars with a DSG gearbox, the gear-change.
SEAT has yet to announce the prices for the new Leon, but more details will be released ahead of the car's February 2013 launch.
