This is the new Rolls-Royce Wraith, the fastest and most powerful Rolls-Royce ever made.
Regular visitors to CarSite will know that Rolls-Royce has been 'teasing' the new Wraith for what seems like an eternity; however, the company has finally taken the wraps off its latest new model at the Geneva Motor Show. And, you'd have to say, it looks rather good.
Under the bonnet, the Wraith gets the same 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 as its four-door brother, the Ghost. The engine sends 624bhp and 590lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, giving a 0-62mph time of 4.4 seconds.
Rolls also claims that the Wraith will offer "the most powerful, involving driving experience of any Rolls-Royce in history." The car's suspension has been tweaked to minimise body roll and improve feedback when cornering, while the steering has been tuned to be lighter at lower speeds and heavier at higher speeds.
But despite the handling improvements, Rolls-Royce is keen to point out that the modifications have not harmed the Wraith's ride or -- Rolls' word, not ours -- 'waftability'.
The Wraith will also be the first model in the company's history to feature Satellite Aided Transmission, a system which uses satellite maps to tell the automatic gearbox about the terrain ahead, and selects the most appropriate gear accordingly. Now THAT is impressive.
Equally impressive is the Wraith's interior -- it's unmistakeably Rolls-Royce-esque on the inside, with Canadel wood panelling and acres of leather. There's also the option of what Rolls calls 'Starlight Headliner', a design feature which sees 1,340 hand-woven fibre optic lights added to the headlining, imitating the night sky.
The Wraith will be priced at 245,000 Euros -- roughly £212,000 -- with deliveries starting in the autumn.
