The new Rolls-Royce Celestial Phantom has gone on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show for the first time.
The Celestial Phantom is a one-off long-wheelbase version of the Phantom which has been commissioned to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Rolls' top-of-the-range luxury limo.
Rolls-Royce claims that the paint scheme of the new car is designed to evoke the night sky -- the paint itself is filled with glass particles which are designed to give the paint finish a sense of depth. On the inside, the Celestial Phantom gets new leather seats which are presented in what Rolls-Royce calls a 'dusk' colour which, and I quote," allude to the inky quality of a cloudless night sky."
Perhaps the Celestial Phantom's standout feature, however, is its Starlight Headliner, a bespoke feature which consists of thousands of fibre optic lights woven into the car's ceiling to mimic a starry night sky. Rolls-Royce also claims that the constellations depicted on the headlining are exactly as they would have looked on 1 January 2003, the day the first Phantom rolled off the production lines. Rolls even consulted the South Downs Planetarium to make sure the constellations were spot on. You don't get that sort of attention to detail with any other manufacturer...
Carrying on the Celestial Phantom's night-time theme, Rolls-Royce has even redesigned the Phantom's customary picnic set to make it more in keeping with a midnight picnic. You get glassware engraved with a Celestial motif, while famed porcelain maker Nymphenburg redesigned the set's plates with an image of the constellations.
Underneath, the Celestial gets the same 6.75-litre V12 engine as the standard Phantom.
Rolls-Royce has yet to confirm whether or not the Celestial Phantom will make it into production.
