Aston Martin has confirmed that the revolutionary hypercar, known until now by the codename AM-RB 001, will be known as the Valkyrie.
The Valkyrie, being developed in conjunction with Red Bull Advanced Technology, carries on an Aston Martin naming convention going back almost seven decades. The first Aston Martin Vantage model, launched in 1951, was the first in a long line of ‘V’ cars which has gone on to include amongst others the Virage, Vanquish, Vulcan, and now the Valkyrie.
The name Valkyrie is taken from Norse mythology, the name given to female figures who choose who lives and dies in battle, before bringing half of those slain to Valhalla.
“Aston Martin model names have deep meaning”, explained Marek Reichman, Chief Creative Officer at Aston Martin.
“They need to inspire and excite, to tell a story and enrich a narrative that stretches back some 104-years. The Aston Martin Valkyrie is an incredibly special car that demands an equally remarkable name; an uncompromising car that leaves nothing in reserve. The connotations of power and honour, of being chosen by the Gods are so evocative, and so pertinent to a car that only a fortunate few will ever experience.”
