Renault has revealed a new concept car at the Monaco Grand Prix. The new Twin'Run concept is designed to be a spiritual successor the legendary R5 Turbo and Clio V6.
The Twin-Run shares many of its styling details with the Twin'Z electric car concept which was revealed last month. However, while the Twin'Z was fitted with an electric motor powered by a set of batteries, the Twin'Run is an altogether more performance-oriented proposition, boasting a 3.5-litre V6 engine developing 316bhp.
The engine is taken from a Megane Trophy racing car and is mounted longitudinally behind the passenger compartment. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox and a limited-slip differential. 0-62mph takes just 4.5 seconds and flat out the Twin'Run will hit 155mph.
The Twin'Run gets a tubular steel chassis borrowed from the Megane Trophy clad in fibreglass body panels. Renault has also made liberal use of carbon-fibre on the roof, wheel arches, front splitter and rear vent. The upshot of this is that the Twin'Run weighs just 950kg.
On the inside, the Twin'Run is very much a stripped-out racer, with a plexiglass panel providing the sole separation between the driver and the engine. Renault has fitted Sparco bucket seats with five-point race harnesses, and the sequential gearstick and handbrake lever are mounted right next to steering wheel.
There are some concessions to luxury in the form of a white lacquer centre console and a smattering of alcantara on the door panels and dashboard.
Renault claims that the Twin'Run previews the design of the next Twingo, describing the concept as a "modern and playful take on the city car."
