Renault has revealed the first official images of its new Twin-Z Concept, which is thought to preview the look of the next-generation Twingo.
The Twin'Z is an electric supermini and is powered by a rear-mounted 68bhp electric motor which sends its power to the rear wheels. The Twin'Z's powertrain is good for a top speed of 81mph and a range of around 100-miles.
The car was designed in collaboration between Renault and British designer Ross Lovegrove. Lovegrove's design is said to be inspired by the world of nature and uses light and organic forms to create an 'endearing, almost living object.'
Renault designer Laurens van den Acker said: "Ross turns things inside out, upside down, challenges and inspires. He makes a hard car soft, a small car spacious, creates simplicity despite complexity, and turns a lifeless object into something that is alive."
The Twin'Z also draws some of its inspiration from the Renault 5 and the original Renault Twingo.
The car's lack of B-pillar and its powered suicide doors provide a panoramic view of the cabin, while increasing ease of entry and egress. The cabin is fitted with four lightweight seats, which have been designed to appear as if they grow naturally from the floor, and Renault has done away with the dashboard, which it claims gives front passengers 'exceptional room'.
Of course, the Twin'Z will never see the light of day; however, some design elements from the Concept will be featured in the production-version of the new Twingo. The next-generation Twingo is also expected to be offered as a five-door for the first time, but whether or not the production model will feature the Twin'Z's suicide-door arrangement remains to be seen.
