Ssangyong’s compact SUV, the Korando, has undergone a programme of improvement for the 2016 model year.
Power output rises while fuel consumption and CO2 emissions both fall as a result of the new Euro 6 compliant 2.2-litre diesel engine, available in two-wheel or four-wheel drive and with a choice of 6-speed manual or new 6-speed automatic transmissions. The new e=XDi220 power plant pumps out 176bhp, almost 20 per cent more than the outgoing 2.0-litre unit, while CO2 emissions drop by 9g/km to 139g/km. Fuel economy has been improved too, up by more than 5mpg to a new figure of 53.3mpg combined.
The engine change is reflected by other enhancement to the Korando, which now sports clear glass indicators, piano black radiator grille, additional chrome detailing on the ELX model , and a new range of alloy wheels. An upgraded infotainment system sees the SE trim gain an RDS audio system with MP3 player, Bluetooth, iPhone and iPod connectivity, while the EX gets a 7-inch high-resolution touch screen, smart device audio streaming, and linked rear view camera. The range-topping ELX benefits from a TomTom SatNav system, while all models feature USB memory slot, Aux port and HDMI port.
“This is a significant evolution for the Korando,” says Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK. “The power upgrade brings greater refinement, while the car continues to deliver unrivaled levels of equipment and value. No other car in its class has such a strong towing capability, nor such a comprehensive warranty for complete peace of mind.”
Priced from £15,995 for the entry-level two-wheel drive SE model, the Ssangyong Korando comes with a five-year limitless mileage warranty and is available from the manufacturer’s 60-strong network of UK main dealers.
