Porsche have announced a new project which will see an electrically-powered Porsche launched before this decade is out.
The Mission E project will see a 700 million euro investment to expand Porsche’s Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant, with over a 1,000 new jobs created as they pursue the quest of a 100% electrically-powered Porsche.
The existing engine plant and body shop are being expanded, while a new assembly plant and paint shop are to be constructed.
A Mission E concept car was unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September in the form of a four-door, four-seater, with a system power output equivalent to 600bhp. Capable of 0-62mph in less than 3.5 seconds, the Mission E concept has a 500km range and an 800-volt charger unit which is capable of charging car’s lithium-ion batteries to 80% capacity in just a quarter-of-an-hour.
"We are resolutely taking on the challenge of electric mobility”, said Porsche Executive Board Chairman Dr Oliver Blume.
“Even with solely battery-powered sports cars, Porsche is remaining true to its philosophy and offering our customers the sportiest and technologically most sophisticated model in this market segment."
UPDATE: The result is the Porsche Taycan.
