The Porsche 918 Spyder, which made its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week, has gone into production at Porsche's factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany.
Porsche 918 Spyder revealed in Frankfurt
The first customers are expected to take delivery of their new cars before the end of the year.
Just 918 examples of Porsche's new hypercar, the successor to the legendary Carrera GT of the early-noughties, will be built, each setting its owner back £657,400. Buyers can also opt to select what Porsche calls the Weissach package, which ups the price to £718,000 in exchange for some magnesium wheels, a race harness and a range of special colour options.
The 918 Spyder is fitted with a mid-mounted 4.6-litre V8 engine and two electric motors, giving a total power output of 875bhp. This makes the 918 Spyder the most powerful Porsche ever made.
Porsche is using the 918 Spyder to wage war against the Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1 in the hypercar stakes; however, we'll have to wait until later this year before we find out how the Porsche stacks up to its rivals.
