Ferrari has revealed its new McLaren P1-rivalling hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show.
And here it is. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the LaFerrari.
We'll kick off with some headline stats. The new car is powered by a 950bhp petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which combines a 789bhp 6.3-litre V8 engine -- which, incidentally, is the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine in the world -- with a 161bhp electric motor. The LaFerrari is fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch paddle-shift gearbox.
0-62mph takes less than three seconds, 0-124mph takes just seven, and 0-186mph takes less than 15 seconds. Flat out the LaFerrari will do 217mph.
The LaFerrari is fitted with two electric motors, one which powers the rear wheels and the other which powers the car's ancillaries. The batteries for these motors weigh just 60kg and are integrated into the car's chassis to improve stiffness. They can be recharged either under braking, or by an excess torque created by the engine, when more power is being produced than can be transmitted to the wheels.
The LaFerrari also features active aerodynamics, with Ferrari claiming that the car delivers "the highest degree of aerodynamic efficiency ever achieved with any road car." The car gets front and rear diffusers, an underbody guide vane and an active rear spoiler, which only generate downforce when it's needed.
Ferrari claims that the new car is the firm's "maximum expression of excellence", and given that the LaFerrari can lap the firm's Fiorano test track in under 1min 20sec -- 5 seconds faster than an Enzo -- we'd say that they have a point.
No prices have yet been confirmed, but we can reveal that the LaFerrari will be limited to a production run of just 499.
