The Porsche 918 Spyder has exceeded expectations by beating its own benchmark performance figures during final testing.

After a final round of performance tuning, the 918 Spyder has managed to clock up a 0-62mph time of just 2.6 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker than previously thought), a 0-124mph time of 7.2 seconds (0.5 seconds quicker than previously) and a 0-186mph time of 19.9 seconds (a 2.1 second improvement).

These figures were obtained with the optional Weissach performance package fitted.

Porsche also claims that the tweaks have brought improvements in terms of electric performance too, with the 918 able to accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds on electric power alone -- an improvement of seven-tenths.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.6-litre V8 petrol engine which develops 599bhp and two electric motors which produced a combined 282bhp. The total power output of the car is 875bhp. The 918 currently holds the lap record for road vehicles on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a time of 6:57 minutes.
