A specially-created “Popemobile” based on a Dacia Duster 4x4 was delivered to the Vatican City this week.

Adapted by Dacia’s Prototype Department and coachbuilder Romturingia, the unique Duster will be used by His Holiness Pope Francis on official occasions.  It has been adapted to feature a comfortable rear bench seat, a large sunroof, a removable glass superstructure, a 30mm lower ground clearance, and other internal and external support elements designed to make it accessible for the 82-year-old pontiff.

Pope Francis is already familiar with Groupe Renault products.  The famously frugal Francis drove a humble Renault 4 as a Cardinal in his native Argentina, and accepted a gift of a 186,000-mile, 30-year old example for his personal transport on his elevation to the papacy.
