Toyota is unveiling the new 2012 Land Cruiser V8 this week at the Brussels Motor Show.

The new 2012 version of Toyota's Land Cruiser V8 which debuts this week at the Brussels Motor Show will go on sale in the UK in March. The full pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the launch date. The latest generation of the Land Cruiser V8 has a refreshed style, and new features to improve both comfort and handling.

The most dramatic styling changes come at the front end of the car, which features a new over-sized bumper with integrated fog lights, as well as a new grille with chrome and silver-finished vertical bars. New headlamps include LED daytime running lights as well as cylindrical high and low beam High Intensity Discharge bi-xenon headlights. Outward extending turn indicators also feature on the new car, and the door mirrors now have built-in LED turn indicators and side view cameras.

Design changes on the inside of the new Land Cruiser V8 are aimed at improving comfort with better ergonomics  and usability for the controls and switchgear, as well as raising the overall quality. The biggest changes have been made to the dashboard layout, which now has a new audio panel and features piano black paint finish with bright silver-finish trim, and chrome-plated details on the air vents and switchgear. The front seats, which have perforated leather upholstery, now also include a cool air function as well as the built-in heaters seen on the previous version, plus a position memory setting.

The 4.5-litre V8 turbodiesel engine has been uprated for the latest model, so that it now complies with Euro 5 emissions standards. Changes include the addition of a diesel particulate filter and new G3 piezo injectors. The new engine delivers 286bhp at 3,600rpm.

Being able to take on the roughest off-road conditions has always been a key element of the Land Cruiser offering, so Toyota has extended this in the latest models with new advanced technologies. These include the world-first Turn Assist, which works together with the Land Cruiser's Crawl Control function, plus Multi-terrain select, a Multi-terrain Monitor, and Tyre angle display.

Crawl Control can be brought into play when the vehicle is travelling at a speed below 15mph and is in L4. It is used to help the driver make slow, controlled ascents and descents and to help when the vehicle gets stuck. The new Turn Assist function that has been added to the Crawl Control enables the driver to make tighter turns by applying the brake to the rear wheel on the side that the driver is turning towards.

Multi-terrain Select automatically adjusts the traction control, throttle and braking to suit off-road conditions. It has five different modes for different types of terrain, namely Mud and Sand, Loose Rock, Mogul, and Dirt and Rock.

The new Multi-terrain Monitor works together with the Multi-terrain Select, and displays images from four external cameras. This gives the driver a complete picture of the terrain around the vehicle so that hazards which might be missed otherwise are brought to the driver's attention.

When the Multi-terrain Select system is activated a new Tyre Angle Display can also be launched. This compliments the predicted tyre path guidelines on the Multi-terrain Monitor, which are shown in real time on the display when the system is activated.

The new Land Cruiser V8 will also come with the Toyota Touch Pro, which is the most sophisticated version of Toyota's new multimedia and navigation system.
