Porsche is set to unveil the new generation of its iconic 911 at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show...

...and yes, it does look exactly the same as the old 911. Apart from a few subtle styling tweaks, you really have to be a massive car-bore to spot any changes whatsoever.

However, Porsche have been busy. The 911 has been completely redesigned and the wheelbase is now 100mm longer. The new 20" wheels also sit closer to the corners of the car than ever before which should improve handling.

Porsche's boffins have also managed to strip 45kg from the new car's weight and the Stuttgart firm claims that the 911 is now even more aerodynamically efficient and structurally rigid.

The 911 will go on sale with a choice of two engines - a 3.4-litre flat-six and a 3.8-litre flat-six, developing 350bhp and 400bhp, respectively.

Porsche claims a 16% improvement in fuel economy and emissions over the old model and the new 911 is fitted with start/stop, thermal management, electrical system recuperation and the world's first manual seven-speed gearbox.

The new 911 will be available to buy in the UK from December, with prices starting from £71,449 for the Carrera and £81,242 for the Carrera S.

The Frankfurt Motor Show begins on 13th September and lasts until 25th September.
