Yesterday, Lexus unveiled their new GS at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California.
The new car will be hitting British roads early next year and Lexus claim that the new S will bring "a more engaging driving experience, bolder design and a more spacious contemporary interior."
A hot F-Sport version will be available along with the obligatory hybrid, the GS450h. A GS250 petrol will also be in the offing. The new car will be more rigid than its predecessor thanks to some clever welding and will also feature a substantially widened track, both of which should improve the GS's handling. New multilink rear suspension should also make the GS an inspiring drive.
The GS will be packed with safety kit as well. Not only will the new car come with 10 airbags, it will also be fitted with Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL), Head up display, a Blind Spot monitor, and both Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning. Astoundingly, the GS will also be fitted with a pre-collision system which gives a warning of potential collisions. A radar system can ascertain if you are looking at the road and if you're not, the car will initiate braking to prevent the collision or, at least, minimise the damage caused.
GS drivers will also get a DVD player, 5.1 surround sound and a 12.3" hi-res multimedia screen.
No word on prices yet but expect the GS to start from around about £30k with top-of-the-line models costing in excess of £50k.
