The new Volkswagen Golf SV has passed Euro NCAP testing with flying colours after the independent European consumer body announced the car has been awarded a full five star rating.
Euro NCAP – or New Car Assessment Programme, to give it its full title – tests new cars released on the European market in four categories to reach an overall performance rating.
The Volkswagen Golf SV scored 87 per cent in the adult occupant protection test, which consisted of a 40mph frontal impact into an aluminium barrier, a 31mph side impact into the drivers door, and a side impact into a pole at a speed of 18mph. The Golf SV performed similarly with regards to child occupant safety, achieving a mark of 85 per cent. Other areas tested are pedestrian protection, and safety assistance.
The Volkswagen Golf SV boast safety equipment such as Electronic Stability Control, ABS with Brake Assist, electronic differential lock, tyre pressure indicator, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and an array of airbags including driver and front-seat passenger, driver’s knee airbag, front and rear-seat head airbags, and side airbags. Driver aids include the City Emergency Braking System, Lane Assist, Adaptive Distance Control, and Blind Spot Sensor with Rear Traffic Alert.
