Mercedes has boosted the power of its already insane C63 AMG to 500bhp with the launch of a new 'Edition 507' model, which will go on show at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The Mercedes C63 AMG Edition 507 is perhaps the most confusingly named model in the company's history, since it has neither a 6.3-litre engine nor 507bhp. The 507 bit comes from the European habit of measuring a car's output in metric horsepower (i.e. the wrong way) rather than the British tradition of using imperial horsepower (the right way).
Under the bonnet, the Edition 507 gets the same 6.2-litre V8 fitted to the standard C63, but the boffins at AMG have fitted lighter pistons, a new crankshaft and con rods taken from the SLS. The result of this is an extra 49bhp and 450lb-ft of torque... and some thoroughly ruined rear tyres.
0-62mph now takes just 4.2 seconds -- a 0.3 second improvement over the old C63 -- while the estate model now covers 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds, also a 0.3 second improvement. The top speed of both models is limited to 174mph.
Other changes include a new aluminium bonnet with cooling scoops and a gloss black finish for the door mirrors, rear spoiler and daytime-running light surrounds. New 19-inch alloy wheels are also fitted as standard, as are high-performance composite brakes.
On the inside, there are three interior trim combinations to choose from, but all models will come with Alcantara trim on the seats, doors and steering wheel, along with contrasting stitching on the seats and an AMG badge on the gear stick.
Prices for the new C63 AMG Edition 507 will be announced when the car goes on show in Geneva.
