The driver of this black Mercedes S-Class is in for a shock after workers at a Scottish railway station tore up the car park around his car, leaving the Mercedes marooned on a car-sized patch of tarmac.

Workers at Edinburgh Waverley station were forced to work around the stranded Mercedes after blocking off an area of the car park in preparation for resurfacing work to be carried out.

It appears that the Merc driver moved the barriers in an attempt to park in the cordoned-off zone.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "The car park had been cordoned off so we could begin work to resurface it and improve the lighting at the facility for our passengers.

"The motorist moved the barriers and parked in the worksite, but we've left a ramp for them to exit and will be happy to return their vehicle once they contact us.
