This is the new Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV, which has been revealed by company boss Dieter Zetsche at parent company Daimler's annual shareholders' meeting.
The Concept Coupe SUV, which will go on show at the Beijing Motor Show later this month, previews a new BMW X6-rivalling compact SUV, following on from the similarly-sized Audi SUV which was revealed yesterday.
A production version of the car is slated for launch next year and is tipped to be called the MLC. It will be built on the same production lines as the ML at the company's factory in Alabama.
Very little information is available on the new MLC; however, it seems likely that the car will share its underpinnings with the existing M-Class SUV. We're also expecting a choice of efficient diesel and high-performance petrol engines, as well as four-wheel drive. Zetsche also claims that the car "will boast very dynamic handling."
"With the Concept Coupé SUV we aim to secure new customers by opening up new segments for Mercedes-Benz," said Zetsche.
"We see a great deal of potential for Mercedes-Benz in the combination of coupé and SUV. We will be officially unveiling the Concept Coupé SUV in just under two weeks at the Beijing Auto Show."
