Images of the new Mercedes CLA have been leaked online ahead of the car's debut at the Detroit Motor Show later this month.

The authenticity of the pictures has not yet been confirmed, but if the images are indeed genuine, the CLA will borrow heavily from the Mercedes Concept Style Coupe first shown at the Beijing Motor Show last year.

Unsurprisingly, Mercedes has chosen to tone down some of the CSC concept's more ostentatious styling features and the new model bears a distinct resemblance to the firm's A- and B-Class models.

On the inside, the CLA gets an iPad-style touchscreen and shares many of its cabin design features with the A- and B-Class.

The CLA is designed to fit into the Mercedes range below the existing C-Class; however, Mercedes has yet to announce any pricing or specification details on the new car.

The Detroit Motor Show begins on 14 January.
