The new Mercedes CLA 45 AMG has made its official worldwide debut at the New York Motor Show.
With a peak output of 360bhp and 332lb-ft of torque, the CLA 45 AMG's turbocharged 2.0-litre engine is the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever fitted to a production car. But despite the impressive performance figures -- 0-62mph takes 4.6 seconds and top speed is a limited 155mph -- the CLA will return a combined 40.9mpg and emit between 161g/km and 165g/km of CO2.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox which offers three different driving modes: comfort, sport and manual. In addition to this, the gearbox offers launch control and double-declutching functions.
The CLA 45 AMG also gets high-performance AMG brakes, an AMG-developed ESP system and AMG suspension, which includes new springs and dampers, additional camber and a lower ride height.
Visually, the CLA 45 AMG can be differentiated from lesser models in the CLA range thanks to its new front and rear bumpers, wider sills, larger air intakes and unique alloy wheels. On the inside, the dashboard is fitted with a carbon-fibre panel and there are part-leather sports seats with red seatbelts.
UK pricing and specification details are still to be confirmed. The Mercedes CLA 45 AMG will arrive in the UK in the autumn.
